MARSHALLTOWN — Capturing his second consecutive win in the IMCA Stock Cars division at Marshalltown, Dave Atcher went to the front on the second lap and never looked back. There was some three and four-wide racing behind him in the 18-lap feature race.
Donavon Smith worked his way to second, and Steve Meyer, Michael Jaennette and Damon Murty rounded out the top five in the IMCA Stock Cars feature.
It was Casey’s General Stores and Racers Against ALS Night at the Central Iowa Fair Friday. At intermission, the youngsters joined the fun with bike races.
On an early caution restart, Andy Hennigar wrangled the lead away from Mike Kennedy in the Mod Lites 15-lap feature race. Hennigar went on to take his third win of the season at Motown. Mike Morrill came home in second, Jimmy May was third, Eric Hendrickson was fourth and Charlie Brown was fifth.
The 12-lap IMCA Hobby Stocks feature was thriller for the entire distance. There were seven lead changes in the race. Austin Luellen took the lead for the second — and final — time on Lap 9. Luellen recorded his fifth win of the season after battling with Tyson Overton and Eric Larson through the middle of the race. Larson, Dustin Elliott, Overton and John Watson rounded out the top five.
Jenae Gustin had a possible winning run come to a sudden halt on the final lap of the
Big Eight Tyre Center IMCA Northern SportMods 18-lap feature race. Just after taking the white flag, Gustin’s car shut off forcing her to spin. Gustin also collected second and third-place runners Clint Luellen and Ryan King. That handed the lead over to Jared Van Deest and the he led the final two laps to take his second win of the year at Motown. Sam Wieben worked his way from 14th to second, Neil Follett was third, Travis Peterson was fourth and Jared Timmerman was fifth.
Jon Snyder won the final feature race of the night. Snyder held off a hard-charging Ronn Lauritzen down the stretch for the victory in the IMCA Modifieds 20-lap race. Eric Elliott ran third followed by Joel Bushore and Joel Rust.
Racing continues Friday on KMJ Performance and Marshalltown Police Night at the Races. Hot laps are at 6:45 p.m. and racing begins at 7:30 p.m.
