Annual traffic safety mug campaign under way

The Newton Police Department’s latest summer traffic safety mug campaign, Travelin’ Traffic Ace XVIII — “Safe & Sober,” began on the Fourth of July and will continue through Sept. 19.

The focus of the campaign is to award area motorists for displaying safe and courteous driving. When observed by an officer displaying safe and courteous driving, the motorist receives a Travelin’ Traffic Ace XVIII travel mug that is refillable with free fountain soda from the following businesses throughout the campaign: Hy-Vee Gas, (Kum & Go First Avenue East location), Kum & Go (1708 S. Eighth Ave. E.), Newton 66 and Godfathers, PJ’s Deli, Sharpy’s, both Subway locations, Taco John’s and West End Sinclair.

In addition, there will be winners from the four distributions and one grand prize winner. The winner will be photographed and highlighted in the Newton Daily News as a Travelin’ Traffic Ace XVIII winner.  The following businesses donated prizes: Capitol II Theatre, Culver’s, Family Video, Giovanni’s, Godfather’s, KFC/Taco Bell, Perkins, Pizza Hut, Pizza Ranch, both Subway locations, Taco John’s and Valle Drive-In.
