Lynnville-Sully opens regional play with win

SULLY — Taking their first step for a return trip to the state softball tournament, Lynnville-Sully’s Hawks used a six-run fourth inning to power their way past visiting Southeast Warren Wednesday night.

The second-ranked Hawks defeated Southeast Warren, 10-2, in a quarterfinal game in the Class 1A Region 5 tournament.

Lynnville-Sully (32-1) hosts Twin Cedars at 7 p.m. Friday in a regional semifinal. The winner advances to the Region 5 championship game at 7 p.m. Monday at Oskaloosa.

Lynnville-Sully led 1-0 after one inning then had the six-run outburst in the fourth. Southeast Warren pushed across two runs in the top of the sixth which were answered by three runs from the Hawks in their half of the inning.

Madison Rasmusson went the distance in the circle for the Hawks. She scattered six hits over seven innings of work and struck out six batters.

Becca Vos led the Lynnville-Sully offense with a 3-for-4 night — all singles. Rasmusson hit a single and a triple while Jade Van Rees had a single and a double. Kasiah Ehresman delivered two singles and Shelby Davis doubled.
