Hawks drop final home game

SULLY — Lynnville-Sully’s final home baseball game didn’t go as planned Wednesday.

The Hawks came up on the short end of a 6-1 decision against visiting Iowa Valley in South Iowa Cedar League action. The teams were tied 1-1 after one inning. Iowa Valley added single runs in the third and sixth innings, and three more in the seventh.

Brandon Dunsbergen drew a walk and scored Lynnville-Sully’s run in the first. T.J. Cunningham drove in the run. The lone hit of the game for the Hawks was a single by Zach Kaldenberg.

Daniel Zimmerman took the pitching loss, going six innings and giving up five runs on five hits and two walks. He had two strikeouts. Tyler Van Zante pitched one inning, allowing one run on one walk.

Lynnville-Sully goes to Keota tonight and to Montezuma Friday to conclude its regular season.

Madrid routes CMB

COLLINS — Mason Gibson practically shutdown Collins-Maxwell/Baxter single handedly Wednesday night.

The Madrid junior allowed only four hits in a complete-game effort on the mound and went 4-for-5 at the plate with a double, home run and six RBI in the Tigers’ 10-1 victory over CMB.

Leading 2-1 at the start of the sixth, Madrid gave itself plenty of cushion by adding seven runs in the inning.

Madrid totalled 14 hits and benefitted from seven walks issued by CMB pitching.

The loss prevented CMB (7-13) from earning its first three-game winning streak of the season.
