On June 6, Fred Davis of Newton made been his last batch of doughnuts at the Casey’s General Store at the North 19th Avenue East location in Newton. He is retiring after being with Casey’s for 15 years.

Davis started his day at 3 a.m. and would clock out at 8 a.m.

“It feels good to know that I will finally be retired, because I don’t have to get up as early,” Davis said.

Although Davis admits that he’s going to like not waking up in the early hours, his schedule was one of the perks of the job.

“I loved the hours because I get off work at 8 (a.m.) and (then) have the whole day to do what I want to do,” Davis said.

As a retiree, Davis plans to spend more in the outdoors hunting, fishing and camping.

“When I get off of work on Friday (what date), I will be spending the week down at Rock Creek,” Davis said.
