Cardinals force OT, lose to ADM

NEWTON — A goal late in the game pushed Newton’s Cardinals and Adel-DeSoto- Minburn’s Tigers into overtime Thursday at H.A. Lynn Stadium.

The Tigers came up with the winning goal in the extra playing time, taking a 2-1 win over the Cardinals. It stopped a three-game winning run by Newton, which is now 4-4.

Following a scoreless first half, the Tigers’ Jacob Hutzell got past the Cardinal defense and beat Newton goalkeeper Griffin Engel for the first goal of the game with 32:21 left in the second half. The Cardinals pulled even with the Tigers on a Grant Davidson goal in the 71st minute of the 80-minute contest.

ADM’s Johnny Reel scored the winning goal eight minutes into overtime.

Newton moves back into Little Hawkeye Conference play Tuesday at home. The Cardinals host Grinnell.
