Iva Mae, the daughter of Carl V. and Katherine (Matt) Babcock, was born Jan. 31, 1930, in Fairfield, Iowa.

Iva Mae is survived by her five children, Chistine (Denis) Ward of Jonesville, La., Catherine (Patrick) Dunnam of Fort Worth, Texas, Kevin Hummel of South Hutchinson, Kan., Kimberly (Cindy) Hummel of Cleburne, Texas, and Kari (Rickey) Burks of Hutchinson, Kan.; her six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, Matthew George, Elisabeth (Jeffrey) Graber and their daughters Lily Mae and Sara Natalie Graber, Iva Dunnam, Melody Hummel, Zack Burks, Laura Wiginton (Emilio) Longoria and their daughter Bella; and Iva Mae’s sister Carolyn Wignall of Moline, Ill.; and family of Newton.

Iva Mae attended school in Newton, graduating from Newton Senior High, Class of 1948.

Iva Mae was united in marriage with Clifford Jerome “Cliff” Hummel on March 30, 1950, in Bethany, Mo. She loved to cook and was a wonderful hostess to many gatherings for family and friends including her five children, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Family was very important to her. She especially loved all holidays and looked forward to her family being together for food and fun. She had many friends and was a second “mom” to several friends of her five children. She had a natural eye for interior decorating and attended Texas Christian University and received a certificate in interior design. Many of her friends received the benefit of her help over the years in choosing furnishings from her and Cliff’s furniture store in Ft. Worth as well as her decorating expertise. In her later years, her grandchildren and then great-grandchildren were her source of joy.

Iva Mae was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Cliff on June 29, 2013; a sister, Betty Babcock; and her brothers, Vernon Babcock, Joe Babcock and David Babcock. She will be missed by all who knew her.

A time of remembrance service for Iva Mae and Cliff will be at 11 a.m., Friday, April 25, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton.
