Robert Broeffle

Robert Broeffle, 83, passed away April 16, 2014, at Careage of Newton.

He was born April 28, 1930, in Mingo, Iowa, the son of Myron L. and Mildred M. (Baldwin) Broeffle. He graduated from Mitchellville High School. After school, he joined the Army and served two months in the States as a cook. After this, he moved to Audubon, Iowa, and farmed south of Coon Rapids, while also working at Southside Welding in Audubon.

In 1969, he moved to Mitchellville and started working as a welder for the Monroe Table Company in Colfax. He worked there nine and a half years. At this time, Bob moved to Jefferson and worked for AMF for 13 years.  Following this, he returned to the Monroe Table Company in Colfax, where he was then living. He worked there for seven more years until he retired.

Bob was married to Margaret Briggs on Sept. 9, 1989. He then moved to Newton, where he lived out his life.

Bob was a man who loved the Lord and enjoyed talking to anyone who would discuss biblical truths with him. He always looked forward to moving on to his new home in heaven. He was a member of Grace Church in Newton and loved to attend as long as he was able.

Bob was an artist and created beautiful hand-carved decorative duck decoys. He spent many hours in his basement workshop enjoying his hobby. Many people have enjoyed his artwork.

Bob is survived by his wife, Margaret; his three sons, Steve (Laura) of Oswego, Ill., and Tim and David of Des Moines; three step-children, Shellie (Craig) Benson of Ankeny, Rick Alan (Juliet) Briggs of Rapid City, S.D., and Mary (Bob) Bailey of Washington, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Megan, Emily, Katherine, Erin, Mark, Randy, Raven, Lauren and Dana (Rusty); two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Allison;  a sister, Jane (Mike) Ette of Center Point, Iowa; a brother, Bruce Broeffle of Minneapolis, Minn.; and two sisters-in-law, Shirley (Don) Huffaker of Baxter and Karen (Bill) Allsup of Bondurant.

The Cremation Society of Iowa is in charge of the cremation. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Grace Church, 1620 N. 11th Ave. E. in Newton. Pastor Dan Hayton will lead the service.
