Relays power Hawks to second place

PELLA — Relays stoked Lynnville-Sully’s fire at Tuesday’s Pella Christian Coed Invitational. The Hawk boys won four of six relay races on their way to second place behind Adel-DeSoto-Minburn.

The Hawks did pretty well in individual races also. Bailee Samson won the 100-meter dash in 11.67 second and Meliek Meyer posted the winning time of 23.86 seconds in the 200-meter dash.

Darin Hofer finished second in the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.67 seconds with Colton Arment in sixth at 19.60 seconds. Noah Engle ran second in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:0.64 seconds.

Canyon Kuhlman placed fourth in the 3,200-meter run in 10:55.78.

Sage Enhresman placed fourth in both the shot put, 41 feet, 1 3/4 inches, and discus, 122’1”. Engle was seventh in the discus with a throw of 114’6”.

Samson, Ehresman, Caden Doll and Meyer combined to win the 4x100-meter relay in 45.41 seconds. Payton Haack, Meyer, Brandon Dunsbergen and Samson posted the gold-medal time of 1:35.25 in the 4x200-meter relay race.

In the 4x400-meter relay, it was Haack, D. Hofer, B. Dunsbergen and Doll winning for the Hawks in 3:44.38. The distance medley relay team of B. Dunsbergen, Ross Van Wyk, Haack and Kuhlmann won in 3:59.12.

Ehresman, Caden Dunsbergen, Engle and Doll combined for fourth in the 4x110-meer shuttle hurdle relay in 1:08.03. The Hawks’ 4x800-meter relay foursome of Jake Brand, Lauri Ryyppo, Arment and Kordell Mueller placed sixth in 10:42.28.
