PCM Mustang athletes compete at Pella Christian meet

PELLA — Prairie City/Monroe boys and girls track traveled to the Pella Christian Invitational Tuesday, and both Mustang teams had standout performances.

The PCM girls took first in both the 4x200-meter relay and the discus. Jayci Vos, Mackenzie Clarke, Ashley Van Gorp and Lexi Kain took the race in 1 minute 48.36 seconds. Mustang Abbi Gilson won the discus with a throw of 113 feet 5 inches.

The Mustang boys had a bright spot in the high jump, with Skyler Koder grabbing the top spot with a jump of 5 feet 11 inches. PCM also took both the third and fourth place spots in the 400-meter dash, with Ronnie Marshall and Troy Vittetoe in at 55.38 seconds and 56.11 seconds, respectively.

The 4x400 relay team of Tyler Dredge, Zach Uhlenhopp, Matt Chizek and Ronnie Marshall took third in 3:50.73. In the boys distance medley, the team of Marshall Dredge, Uhlenhopp and Chizek finished third in 4:07.30.

Other Mustang boys showed strong performances. In the 200-meter dash, Vittetoe grabbed the fourth spot in 24.44 seconds. Maverick McAtee took fifth in the 800-meter run in 2:17.94. Two Mustangs placed in the top 8 in the 1600-meter run. Chizek took third place in 5:12.14 and McAtee grabbed fourth in 5:31.11.

Tyler Townsend took eighth in the 100-meter hurdles at 24.20 seconds. In the 400-meter hurdles Mustang Chase Kuccker placed fourth in 1:08.72. The 4x100-meter relay team of Austin Sneller, Keith Sutton, Luke Greiner and Ricky Reeve finished sixth in 52:11. PCM also took the sixth spot in the 4x200-meter relay with Tyler Dredge, Sutton, Greiner and Uhlenhopp crossing the finish in 1:45.33.

The Mustang 4x100-meter shuttle hurdle team of Reeve, Kuccker, Skyler and Sneller took fifth place in 1:09.07.

PCM field athletes also stayed competitive Tuesday. Greiner placed fourth in the long jump, recording a leap of 7’ 8.25”. Connor Warrick took fifth in the shot put with a throw of 40’ 1.75”. In the discus, Mustang Glenn Gillespie placed fifth with a throw of 121’ 4”, and Tyler Foster rounded out the top eight with a throw of 110’ 7”.

The PCM boys head to Adel, Friday for the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn varsity invitational. The Mustang girls will travel next to Montezuma on April 22.
