Daughters of the American Revolution Grinnell Chapter

The Grinnell Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met Saturday, April 12, at the Centre for Arts and Artists in Newton. Regent Darlene Leib and Chaplain Mary Rethmeier opened the meeting with the DAR ritual followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the American Creed.

Reports were given as follows: president general’s message by Kris Macy, secretary’s minutes by Linda Hatch, treasurer’s report by Pat Beckham and registrar’s report by Barbara Hug.  Barbara Jones gave the conservation report on the upcoming Earth Day which is April 22. The national defense report given by Dee Meyers featured the American Patriot: Freedom Rock located near Greenfield.

Jeanette Shannon installed the following officers for a two-year term: regent, Kris Macy; vice regent, Melinda Hardin; chaplain, Mary Rethmeier;  secretary, Barbara Hug;  treasurer, Susan Wendell; registrar, Darlene Leib; librarian, Phyllis Snook; and historian, Lynn Peterson.

Betty Carr and Suzanne VanZandt introduced Chris Chartier, director of Jasper County Veteran Services, who gave the program on the history of the office and his responsibilities. There was a lot of discussion on needed donations and how the Grinnell Chapter can assist.

The next meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. May 10 at the Drake Library in Grinnell, where the Citizen of the Year will be announced.
