Newton P.D. 5K to honor Richardson

The Newton Police Association will be hosting the inaugural Richardson Run Memorial 5K on Saturday, May 10 at 9 a.m.  Named after Newton Police Officer Lt. Patrick Richardson, all funds raised from the event will support the creation and expansion of the Newton Law Enforcement museum and memorial.

Lt. Richardson was a twenty-year veteran of the Newton Police Department, who died on Sept. 1, 2013 after suffering a heart attack while on his morning run.  He was an avid runner, known for his running ability, his competitive spirit, and a well-respected leader.

Individuals are invited to walk, run or jog in the 5K.  The course will begin and end outside the Newton Police Department.  Prizes will be awarded for the first man and woman across the finish line and for male and female age group winners.

Cost to participate is $20 if you pre-register by April 25 and includes a race t-shirt.  Race day registrations will be accepted for $25, but t-shirts will be available in limited quantities.  Packet pickup and race day registration will begin at 8 a.m. on the morning of the race at the Newton Police Department at 101 W. 4th Street S.

Registration forms are available at www.fitnesssports.com, www.getmeregistered.com/RichardsonMemorial5K and at the Police Department.
