Eagle girls sprint to top 4 finishes

KNOXVILLE — Sprinting is a long suit for the Pella Christian girls’ track team this season. At Saturday’s Knoxville Panther Relays, the Eagle girls went second and four in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes and finished second in the 4x100-meter relay race.

Leah Breon was second in the 100 meters in 13.88 seconds and second in the 200 meters in 29.42 seconds. Running fourth in both races was Sarah Meyer, posting times of 14.16 seconds and 29.49 seconds, respectively.

Meyer and Breon combined with Taylor Bolt and Kathryn Van Tuyl for a time of 52.99 seconds in the 4x100-meter relay race. The same foursome finished third in the 4x200- meter relay event in 1 minute, 54.62 seconds.

Morgan Anderson was sixth in the 400-meter dash in 1:08.12. She joined with Marina Shannon, Cara Theune and Alyssa Starkey to claim fifth in the 4x400-meter relay race in 4:49.81.

Starkey ran fourth in the 800-meter race in 2:41.68 and Theune was sixth in 2:52.17. Shannon placed sixth in the 1,500-meter run in 5:37.26. The 4x800-meter relay team of Theune, McKInley Zula, Starkey and Shannon finished fourth.

Van Tuyl cleared the bar at 4 feet, 6 inches to take fifth in the high jump. Laura Nicholson was seventh at 4’4”.

The Eagle boys also competed but there was no report received by the Daily News on their results.
