Mike G. Wilson

Mike G. Wilson, 65, of Grinnell died Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 8 at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Rev. Kathryn Roys, pastor of the St John’s Lutheran Church, officiating.  Pallbearers will be Ray Hunter, Lance Wilson, Dave Hobbs, Dennis Thompson, Kyle Smith and Brody Thomas. Honorary bearers are Dan Utech, Greg Munson and Steve Pickens. Interment will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. Visitation will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Smith Funeral Home and the family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

Michael George Wilson was born the son of Georgie Martin Wilson and Maxine Florence (Deppe) Wilson on Nov. 4, 1948, in Grinnell. He was raised in Grinnell and graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1968.

He was united in marriage to Teri Renna Badger on Oct. 20, 1979, in Grinnell. The couple was blessed with two children, Carmon and Summer. They began their married lives living in Kellogg, for a short time and then moved to Grinnell. Mike was a long-time employee of 38 years at Midwest Manufacturing in Kellogg.

Mike was a family man. He loved taking his family on camping trips, going on vacations, attending Iowa State Cyclone football games, and playing catch in the backyard. The holidays, especially Christmas, were very special to him. His enjoyments included golfing, watching Iowa State football and basketball, telling stories, spending time with his grandchildren, and riding them around on his tractor. He will be remembered for his kind, fun-loving, generous way.

Mike is survived by his wife of 34 years, Teri Wilson of Grinnell; son, Carmon (Marcie) Wilson of Ames; daughter, Summer (Tony Laurent) Wilson of Coralville; grandchildren Jaden, Avery, Elise and Kyler; his mother Maxine Wilson of Grinnell; siblings, Dennis (Becky) Wilson of Grinnell, Ronda Wilson of Grinnell, and Jodi (Bruce) Potter of Grinnell; and nieces and nephews, Andrea Smith, Kerrie Davis, Curt Wilson, Chris Wilson, Brian Wilson, Josh Potter and Katie Revell. He was preceded in death by his father.
