To the editor:
I’m writing to thank Bob Eschliman and Shaw Media for allowing others to exercise their First Amendment rights by expressing their outrage over Eschliman’s column entitled “Adding to my library.”
While I do not share their outrage, it is a sign of a truly high-caliber editor that he is willing to publish letters that object so vehemently to material that he has authored. That said, I would like to request that Mr. Eschliman not apologize for exercising his First Amendment rights on the pages of the Newton Daily News, or for being happy for a friend's good fortune.
It would also be nice if those who think he should apologize would kindly refrain from cluttering up this fine newspaper with inane remarks, despite the fact that it is their First Amendment right to express such nonsense.
