Duane H. Stout

Duane H. Stout passed away on March 16, 2014, just shy of his 70th birthday.

He was born in Washington, Iowa, on March 30, 1944. Duane grew up in Washington, Iowa, and moved with his parents to their family farm in Brighton, Iowa. In 1962, he graduated from Washington High School. He enjoyed playing his clarinet in the Washington Municipal Band. He graduated from AIB – The American Institute of Business with a degree in accounting and business. For several years he worked in the Des Moines area as an accountant and auditor. He was a proud member of the Iowa Air National Guard. He became disabled in 1968.

Duane’s greatest passion was farming. He spent a number of years farming with his parents in Brighton and Leroy, Iowa. Driving his cherished tractor during the spring planting and fall harvest gave him enormous pleasure. As a young man he was a marathon board game player, he played Risk with family for hours. He was a great wordsmith and story teller. His sense of humor was enjoyed by all when he shared stories about his grade school and high school pranks.

Since 1997, Duane has resided at the City View Residential Care facility in Des Moines. The family sincerely thanks the staff at City View for their loving care and his Psychiatrist, Dr. Jerome Greenfield, M.D. Duane’s family wishes to thank the Mercy Hospital doctors and nurses who cared for him in his final day.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and LuVerne Hartman Stout; brother, Ralph; sister, Joyce Grimm; and two baby brothers.

Surviving family members include his brothers, Franklin P Stout (Margaret Stout) of Johnston, Iowa, and Alan E Stout (Joy Stout) of Newton, Iowa, as well as his four nieces, eight nephews, cousins and extended family.

Graveside services will be held at a future date.
