Newton Police Department
• Jonathan Arterburn, 25, of Newton was arrested on a Marshall County warrant for probation violation after Newton police located him at 6:33 p.m. Tuesday at 1782 W. Fourth St. N. #2. He was turned over to Marshall County authorities.
• Brianna L. Buzick, 18, of Pella was cited with failure to yield to a vehicle on the right after authorities responded to a two-vehicle accident at 9:45 p.m. Feb. 14 at South Sixth Avenue West and West 11th Street South. Buzick was traveling east on Sixth Avenue, began sliding when attempting to stop at 11th Street for a northbound vehicle and colliding with the vehicle, driven by Aaron J. Trotter, 22, of Newton. Buzick’s vehicle sustained an estimated $5,000 damage and Trotter’s an estimated $1,000 damage.
• Joni L. Carter, 52, of Newton was cited with failure to maintain control after authorities responded to a two-vehicle accident at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 2 in the 600 block of North Second Avenue East. Carter was traveling east, crossed the center line and struck a parked vehicle owned by Alison C. Grier of Newton. Carter then backed up and struck another parked vehicle owned by John P. Pattschull of Newton. The parked vehicles sustained an estimated $2,000 damage each, and Carter’s vehicle sustained an estimated $5,000 damage.
• Linda K. Dawson, 51, of Newton was cited with failure to obey a stop sign after authorities responded to a two-vehicle acciddent at 4:21 p.m. Feb. 14 at First Avenue East and East 11th Street South. Dawson failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a vehicle driven by Donna K. Illingworth, 58, of Newton. Dawson’s vehicle sustained an estimated $300 damage and Illingworth’s an estimated $1,000 damage.
• Larry D. Hayden, 29, of Corydon was charged with driving while license suspended after authorities stopped him at 9:05 p.m. Feb. 17 in the 100 block of East Eighth Street South for having an inoperable headlight. He was charged and released to appear in court.
• Avery L. Leavens, 22, of Newton was arrested on an Adel warrant for assault after Newton police located him at 3:50 a.m. Wednesday in an alley in the 200 block of West Second Street North. He was transported to the Jasper County Jail.
• Kala M. Twogood, 16, of Colfax was cited with failure to obey flashing a red stop signal after authorities responded to a two-vehicle accident at 10:48 p.m. Feb. 7. Twogood was traveling south on East Fourth Street North when she entered the intersection at First Avenue East and collided with a westbound vehicle driven by Debra A. Bollhoefer, 49, of Kellogg. After the collision, Twogood’s vehicle struck a utility pole. Each vehicle sustained an estimated $10,000 damage. The pole was not damaged.
• Dean M. Ward, 88, of Newton was cited with failure to yield upon left turn, and Andrew D. Boothe was cited with failure to prove security against liability (accident-related) after authorities responded to a two-vehicle accident at 7:59 a.m. Feb. 7 at East Second Street north and North Fourth Avenue East. Ward was traveling east on Fourth Avenue when he turned north on Second Street and was hit by an eastbound vehicle. Ward stated the sun kept him from seeing the vehicle. Damage was estimated at $2,000 to each vehicle.

• Carrie C. Bonnett, 27, of Newton was charged with trespassing after authorities responded to a complaint at 9:54 p.m. Feb. 10 at 2305 E. 19th St. N. Lot 5A. Bonnett was charged for allegedly walking onto the victim’s property and knocking on the door for more than 20 minutes even though the victim told her to leave several times. Bonnett also allegedly attempted to push her way past the victim to enter the residence. She was charged and transported to the Jasper County Jail.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. It is the policy of the Newton Daily News to release the names of individuals charged with a crime who are 16 and older.
