SIGOURNEY — Senior leadership fueled Lynnville-Sully’s Hawks in a 52-33 win over host Sigourney Monday night.

T.J. Cunningham and Darin Hofer provided the leadership, scoring and rebounding to guide the Hawk boys to a South Iowa Cedar League victory.

Hofer fired in 22 points, hitting three 3-pointers, and Cunningham connected for 17 points, which included two threes. Cunningham grabbed eight rebounds, dished out four assists and made two steals. Hofer controlled seven rebounds.

“We got off to a good start and then let down a little on the defensive end. Once we started scrambling again, things got better for us,” Lynnville-Sully head coach Nick Harthoorn said. “It was nice to see our seniors step up and carry us tonight.”

The Hawks pushed out to an 18-6 lead by the end of one quarter of play. By halftime, Sigourney made a run at Lynnville-Sully, but the Hawks were up 33-20. Lynnville-Sully outscored Sigourney 19-13 in the second half.

Sigourney was led by Kevin Weber with 12 points and Blaine Gretter with 10 points.

The Hawks are 15-4 overall and 14-4 in SICL action. They have two games remaining in the regular season.

Lynnville-Sully has its final home doubleheader tonight, hosting Tri-County. The Hawk boys host English Valleys Friday.
