Hussmann will be missed

To the editor:

Iowa has lost a great journalist.  Pete Hussmann was a genuine investigative reporter.  He worked hard to find the truth and report his findings in an unbiased manner to his readership, whether at the Daily News in years past, or his Newton Independent.

Another attribute was the fact Pete played no favorites.  What he learned is what you got.  He and I were friends, but I received no special treatment.  When he thought I was wrong, either by vote or action, he laid it out for the public to view his assessment.

I thank God for the privilege of being with Pete and Julie at their home on the Saturday preceding his passing.  I was “moved” to stop by and wish him well with his pending testing and surgery.

Pete will be missed in the community, for his objective was to make Newton a better place.  He succeeded in that endeavor.
