Baby arrives 17 minutes into new year

DES MOINES (AP) — The first child for Lance and Christine Eddie is among the first babies born in Iowa in 2014.

Nash David Eddie was born via cesarean section at 12:17 a.m. Wednesday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. The boy weighed 5 pounds, 3 ounces and measured out 19 inches long. He’d been scheduled to arrive on Jan. 20. He’ll have to spend a few days at Blank Children’s Hospital before heading home to Norwalk.

Five minutes later, at 12:22 a.m., identical twin girls Aleena and Aleeah Villegas were born at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City.
