The Montgomery Ward store (118 N. Second Ave. E.) has begun a $60,000 remodeling project. Outside, the store will receive new doors and windows and aluminum paneling from the windows up. Inside, there will be new air conditioning, lighting, display units, and fresh paint …

Newton’s mayoral election next week will have five candidates, a record number (the results: Tom Hill defeated former mayor Clarence Harp, councilman Vern Sayre, Frank Mastroianni, and the incumbent, Ronald Bonnett.) …

An ad for McMaster’s Deep Rock Service at 220 First Ave. E. stated that the fire at their service station was more extensive than previously thought, but they would remain open while rebuilding.
