Local man escapes from Ottumwa Correctional Facility

Robert Thomas Andrews, 33, escaped from the Ottumwa Work Release Facility Saturday.

Andrews was convicted in Jasper County of attempt to commit murder and began his sentence in 1998. He is currently serving 31 years for this charge including voluntary absence, espace of a felon and assault on a peace office.

Andrews was placed on escaped status following an unexcused absence from the facility. Andrews was moved to work release in early June.

Andrews is described as a white male with brown hair and blue eyes. He is 5’9” and 196 lbs. and has tattoos on his abdomen, left ankle, back, right calf and chest. Information about his whereabouts should be reported to the Ottumwa Police Department or Wapello County Sheriff’s Department.
