Buescher claims win at Iowa Speedway Sunday

NEWTON — On a green-white-checkered restart, James Buescher holds off Ross Chastain to win the NASCAR Camping World Truck Fan Appreciation 200 at Iowa Speedway Sunday afternoon. The race was presented by New Holland

The race only had two cautions through 164 laps but there were five from Lap 169 on to prolong the race past the scheduled 200 laps. Buescher took the win on Lap 212.

Buescher is the NCWT series champion, but is was his first trip to the Pizza Ranch Victory Lane at Iowa Speedway. Sunday's win was only his second victory this season.

"We stuck with our strategy all day. We said we were going to run 100 (laps) before we put our first set of tires on. We held to that strategy and it played out just right," Buescher said after the race.

"This is a place we've been trying to win for a long time. We've come really close more than we want to talk about. We finally got it done."

Chastain was the pole winner and led the first 41 laps and led late in the race. Chastain was second followed by Ty Dillon, Johnny Sauter and Darrell Wallace Jr.

Last year's Iowa race winner Ryan Blaney got the lead on a restart with five laps left. Another caution came out then on the final caution, Blaney came in for tires, giving up the lead and couldn't get back in the top five on the final green-white-checkered restart.

More on the race will be in Monday's Daily News.
