Patrick A. Richardson

Patrick A. Richardson, 48, of Newton died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center of heart failure.

Patrick was born in Crystal Lake, Ill., to Kaye and Paul Richardson.

He attended school later in Cresco and graduated from Crestwood High School. He joined the Army, where he served as an MP stationed at West Point, N.Y., for three years and then as a correctional officer at Leavenworth, Kan., for three years. After separating from the Army in 1990, Pat was hired by the Newton Police Department, where he worked up to the present time. Pat had spent his time with the department as a K-9 handler, tactical team member and two different assignments with local narcotics task forces. He was currently a lieutenant, working with the tactical team, patrol units and Newton’s reserve officers.

Pat leaves behind a wife, Kimberly, and three children, David of Newton, Jordan (Christopher) Hoff of Blaine, Minn., and Sean at home. He also leaves a granddaughter, Lauren, who was her “papa’s” best playmate, and another grandchild yet to be born.

His parents, Kaye Richardson of Cresco and Paul Richardson Sr. of Albia, and his brother, Paul Richardson Jr. of Cresco, are also left to honor his memory, as well as many cousins, aunts, uncles and friends too numerous to count.

Special police funeral ceremonies will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at the Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton.

The family will receive visitors from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.

Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cresco
