Wilma ‘Pat’ Hoke
Wilma “Pat” Hoke, 91, of Newton died Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at Abernathy Laurels in Newton, N.C. Born Aug. 8, 1922, in Cameron, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Minnie Lemon Patterson and Archie Lee Patterson. The Patterson family moved to Conover, N.C. when Pat was in grade school, and Newton-Conover has been her home since that time.
She was married to Woodrow Finley Hoke on June 17, 1945, and was married for 54 years. She was a member of Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ in Conover. Wilma was actively involved in the life of Trinity UCC in Conover, where over the years she taught Sunday school, was a member of the Women’s Guild, served on the Consistory, and provided hundreds of meals for various occasions. One of her favorite past-times was to decorate the sanctuary for special occasions, especially during the Christmas and Easter seasons. Wilma was an example to live by, and an inspiration to many that entered her life. Furthermore, she was a life member of The Good Earth Garden Club, volunteered for over a quarter century in various capacities at The Catawba Valley Medical Center and was recognized as a lead volunteer for the Catawba Valley Medical Center’s Red Cross auxiliary. She was a “helping hand” volunteer for Hospice of Catawba Valley and was recognized for her services in the Catawba County Department of Social Services Home-Delivered Meals program.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Archie and Minnie Patterson; and her loving husband, Woodrow Hoke.
