Tween Bible Study group ends in two weeks

This isn’t your mom’s Bible study group.

The Truth and Dare Bible Study is for 10 to 13-year-old girls only. Started by 11-year-olds Kennedy Patterson and Emma Wips, they used to meet every Monday, but since school started, they now meet on Thursdays at Bridgehouse Coffee.

“Well, we were just kind of talking one day, and Emma thought it would be a really fun idea if we put together a Bible study,” Kennedy said.

A flier the girls made states the Bible Study group is for tweens and is filled with words of encouragement from helping others to getting along with a friend.

The name comes from a devotional book Kennedy has, and she plans to take the devotions in the book and center the Bible study around them.

“So it’s a little bit different because it puts  a different point of view on things,” Kennedy said.

Each week, the group focuses on a different topic. At the next meeting, Kennedy said they plan to discuss being nice to people, not judging them and helping them.

“It’s a lot of fun because we can meet new girls and make new friends and everything,” Kennedy said.

Emma and Kennedy met when Kennedy went to a Sunday school when she went to her grandmother’s church after taking a break from her own.

The group originally started out only for 10 to 12-year-olds, but the group decided to include 13-year-olds.

“We decided that would be a good age to stop at,” Kennedy said.

The group usually consists of six girls that meet at Bridgehouse. At first, the two invited their friends, but the group quickly gained other members who the two didn’t know. The group is non-denominational and welcomes anyone, as long as they are in the age range and are a girl, to come and study the Bible with them.

“Everyone is welcome to it,” Kennedy said. “We thought we could probably get more people to come and just hear the word of God ,and we thought it would be a good idea to have anyone come.”

Their last meeting is on Sept. 19 at Bridgehouse at 6:30 p.m., and the meetings usually last an hour.
