Academic Achievements

William Penn University

Jon Tanner Clute of Newton and Caleb DeWayne Hoeksema of Lynnville have been named to the president’s list for the spring 2013 semester. To be included on the president’s list, a student must complete at least 12 hours of credit with a minimum grade point average of 3.9 on a 4.0 scale.

Alora Ayrington Simmons and Kyle Charles Soderblom of Newton and Matthew Joseph Cockerton of Prairie City have been named to the dean’s list for the spring 2013 semester. To be included on the dean’s list, a student must complete at least 12 hours of credit with a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.89 on a 4.0 scale.

Iowa State University

The Iowa State University College of Human Sciences and its academic departments offered more than $800,000 in scholarships to students for the 2013-2014 academic year. Local recipients include:

• Morgan Iske of Newton, majoring in event management, Marjorie McKinley Scholarship — Dept. of Apparel, Events, & Hospitality Mgmt.

• Bailey Bishop of Baxter, majoring in family and consumer sciences education and studies, Miller Endowment Scholarship — Dept. of Human Development and Family Studies.
