School board member’s holiday comments alienate

To the editor:

Regarding the school calendar changes, I could hardly believe my eyes when I read the comment by Board of Education member Nat Clark. The topic was MLK Day, and he stated, “That has nothing to do with any kind of educational thing.”

Mr. Clark has a right to his opinion. Where he continues risking alienating many citizens, in addition to sounding ridiculously insensitive, is when he continues.

“If we are going to lump other bogus holidays in, why do we need to be off for Good Friday?”

Wow! Bogus? Are we the least concerned that he is representing the citizens of Newton and advocating for our most precious resource, our children? I am.
