Newton Police Department

• Timothy J. Cottrell, 49, of Newton was cited for a license plate violation and driving with a suspended license after officers performed a routine traffic stop at 12:26 a.m. Friday at 815 N. Eighth Ave. E. He was taken to jail.

• Michael R. Gliem, 35, of Newton was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to affix tax stamp and eluding after officers on patrol noticed a vehicle with an inoperable third brake light at 3:51 a.m. Friday at the 1200 block of Highway 14 South. The officers attempted to pull over the vehicle but Gliem continued driving. The vehicle’s speed doubled the speed limit several times while officers pursued it. Gliem was taken to jail.

• Margaret M. Morton, 59, of Newton was cited for unsafe backing onto a highway after officers were dispatched at 5:57 p.m. Thursday to 511 E. Fourth St. S. on report of a car accident. Morton was backing out of her driveway when she struck a vehicle driven by Deborah K. Horning, 62, of Newton, causing an estimated $1,500 damage to Horning’s vehicle. Morton’s vehicle sustained an estimated $400 worth of damage. Neither occupant was injured in the accident.

• Jamison P. Odor, 38, of Webster City was charged with driving with a revoked license after officers performed a routine traffic stop at 11:01 p.m. Friday at 100 E. Second Ave. N. The officer noticed Odor’s car stopped at a yellow flashing light and ran his plates. The officers discovered that Odor’s license had been revoked due to an OWI charge from January. Odor was taken to jail.

• Mary J. Stevens, 45, of Newton was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine and child neglect after officers were dispatched at 9:11 p.m. on June 23 to 808 E. 12th St. N. with a search warrant. During the course of the search, officers found substances that field tested positive for marijuana and methamphetamine. Officers also found a glass smoking pipe. Stevens was released to appear in court.

• Tony L. Stevens, 47, of Newton was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, after officers were dispatched at 9:11 p.m. on June 23 to 808 E. 12th St. N. with a search warrant. During the course of the search, officers found substances that field tested positive for marijuana and methamphetamine. Officers also found a glass smoking pipe. Stevens was released to appear in court.

Jasper County Sheriff’s Department

• Kyle F. Chatman, 24, of Des Moines was charged with driving with a suspended license, improper use of registration, failure to prove insurance, failure to give notice of address change and failure to show registration after deputies ran Chatman’s license at 3:46 p.m. Friday to 168 Eastbound off ramp on Interstate 80. Chatman’s original charge was failing to not pay an Iowa fine eight times. Chatman was taken to jail.

• Jacob C. Deitrick, 17, Colfax was charged with minor in possession of alcohol after a deputy on routine patrol at 2:02 a.m. Saturday at the Oswalt Bridge on the 1200 block West 128th Street South observed two individuals fishing and discovered a bottle of alcohol nearby. Both were asked to submit to a PBT to confirm their statement that they were not drinking. Deitrick’s PBT result was .034 and he told the deputy he had taken a drink, but not of the bottle that was at the scene. He was taken home and released to his father to appear in court.

• Shad J. Ford, 24, of Newton was charged with simple assault after deputies were dispatched at 2:30 a.m. Friday to 4235 N. 83rd Ave. E. on report of a fight. Ford went to the residence of the victim to retrieve some items. The victim and Ford engaged in a shouting match that turned physical. At one point the victim was hitting Ford, then he shoved her resulting in her breaking her arm and then went to the hospital. Ford was taken to jail.

• Macauley O. Mosher, 17, of Colfax was charged with minor in possession of alcohol after a deputy on routine patrol at 10:00 Thursday at the 5300 block of West 100th Street North observed Mosher under a bridge with numerous people. Numerous beverages of alcohol were also discovered at the scene. Mosher consented to a PBT that resulted in a BAC of .031. He was released to his parents to appear in court.

• Jesse D. Nicodemus, 17, of Colfax was charged with minor in possession of alcohol when a deputy on routine patrol at 10:00 Thursday at the 5300 block of West 100th Street North observed Nicodemus under a bridge with numerous people. Numerous beverages of alcohol were also discovered at the scene. Nicodemus consented to a PBT that resulted in a BAC of .040. He was released to his parents to appear in court.
