Newton Police Department

• Brooke MC Healey, 18, of Newton was charged with fifth-degree theft after officers were dispatched at 3:55 a.m. July 1 to Aleya Salon on a report of a theft. The salon had video of two individuals stealing a cigarette butt can in the back alley. Officers identified Healey as one of the individuals a few days later. Healey was taken to jail.

• Jacob R. Stengele, 19, of Newton was charged with fifth-degree theft after officers were dispatched at 3:55 a.m. July 1 to Aleya Salon on report of a theft. The salon had video of two individuals stealing a cigarette butt can in the back alley. Officers identified Stengele as one of the individuals a few days later. Stengele was taken to jail.

Jasper County Sheriff’s Office

• Joanne L. Zimmerman, 47, of Yale, Mich., was charged with arson, false reports to law enforcements, interference with official acts and child endangerment after deputies were dispatched at 1:26 a.m. Thursday to 10411 N. 51st Ave. W. in Colfax on report of a shooting. Zimmerman lit a mattress and a pile of clothing on fire in her house. A 4-year-old child was asleep in another room. A family member was able to rescue the child. Officers discovered from Zimmerman, who made the initial call, that there was no shooting. Zimmerman was taken to jail.
