Police ID body recovered from river in Waterloo

WATERLOO (AP) — Authorities have released the name of a 35-year-old woman whose body was pulled from the Cedar River in Waterloo.

The body of Shanda Werkmeister of Waterloo was spotted about 3 p.m. Tuesday near an asphalt plant. Officers had been sent to the scene to investigate a suspicious vehicle parked off the roadway on a gravel drive. The car was owned by Werkmeister’s mother, who said she hadn’t seen her daughter for a couple of days.

An autopsy has been scheduled.
