Newton Municipal Band’s season finale Thursday

The Newton Municipal Band will step onto the stage at Maytag Bowl for its final concert of the summer on Thursday.

The concert, which starts at 7:30 p.m., will feature different brass sections of the band, including trumpets and trombones. Leading the trumpet section will be Jim Beerends, director of bands at Newton Senior High School. Pieces for the evening’s performance will be chosen from the following: highlights from “The Music Man,” “Trumpets, Ole!,” “A Copeland Tribute,” “Alamo March,” “The Sounds of Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass — A Medley for Concert Band,” “Marche Des Parachutistes Belges,” “The Trombone King March,” “Rough-Riders” and Cajun folk songs.

The band will be conducted by Dan Stecker, director of the Pleasantville High School band. Fred Chabot will be master of ceremonies.

Although this is the last performance this season by the Newton Municipal Band, the summer concert series will continue with other groups at the bowl on Thursday nights.
