Jasper County Information Systems Network Administrator Ryan Eaton presented the Jasper County Board of Supervisors with a slew of bids in regards to updating county technology.
The technology upgrades would be used to modernize the Jasper County Emergency Operations Command Center. Eaton said that he visited several other counties EOC’s and was impressed with the Marion County site in Knoxville.
Pella-based Digital Solutions Inc., who did the Knoxville facility, won with a low bid of $25,966.75. The bid was more than $15,000 cheaper than the next lowest bid and includes labor.
Some of the items that the EOC will have are three 50” inch LED TVs, that will serve as monitors, a 16:10 LCD projector and a 8x8 Matrix Switcher with internal baluns. The switcher will allow EOC employees to have remote access for up to eight video feeds at once
Eaton presented to the board on behalf of Jasper County IT Director Celia Robertson, who was originally on the agenda, but was unavailable. He also commented that Digital Solutions prices were so much lower than the competing bidders because they get materials at cost.
The EOC building is located within the former Iowa National Guard Armory at 1030 W. Second St. S.
Backpocket Brewing LLC of Coralville was awarded a liquor license for RAGBRAI. The Jasper County stop is in Monroe this year and Backpocket will be setting up on the outskirts to provide samples and sell tickets for their product.
Board Chair Dennis Stevenson said he doesn’t think they will affect local businesses by setting up on the outskirts of town. He also said that Backpocket’s letter stating they will donate a percentage of profits to Jasper County played no part in the vote.
The final item that was approved came from the Sheriff’s Office. Both the offices quarterly and yearly reports were approved by the board. June 30 marked the end of both the quarter and the 2012-13 fiscal year.
The office began the previous fiscal year with a balance of $46,487.71 and is ending it with a balance of $24,497.27. The total receipts were $1,138,062.40, and the total for disbursements was $1,160,052.84.
Some of the biggest receipts included $32,500 from concealed weapon permits and $68,600 for city law enforcement.
