Harold Lee Salsberry

Harold Lee Salsberry, 69, of Newton died on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Memorials to the American Diabetes Center, Davita Dialysis Center or to the Donor’s Choice may be left at the funeral home.

Harold, the son of Cooney and Mary Roxie Jane (Vaughn) Salsberry, was born on Nov. 3, 1943, in Belmond. The family moved to Missouri shortly after Harold’s birth. When Harold was 6 they made their home in Newton, where he attended school.

Harold was united in marriage with Linda Karen Hammer on April 24, 1970, in Unionville, Mo. Harold worked at Midwest Manufacturing in Kellogg along with many other factories in the area before working at Eagle Iron Works for over 30 years. He retired in 2009. Harold was a member of the Machinist Union and a former member of the Blue Jay CB Club and a bowling league. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle.

Harold is survived by his wife, Linda of Newton; children, Connie Jo Salsberry (Scot Abbe) of Des Moines, Harold “Lee” Salsberry (Brittany Andersen) of Des Moines and Brenda Sue South (Shane Hanneman) of Phoenix, Ariz.; his 10 grandchildren, Allen Salsberry, who Harold and Linda raised like a son, Mackenzie, Noah, Caleb, Mark, Christian, Corbin, Drew, Heaven and Scott; and his two dogs, Peanut and Charlie. He was preceded in death by his parents and a stillborn sister, Lottie Luella Salsberry.
