Enjoy free family fun in the great outdoors

Jasper County Conservation is offering a unique classroom experience that introduces families to a basic knowledge of fishing and hunting this summer.

No previous experience required, and topics are designed to provide participants with the knowledge get their family more active in the outdoors.

Join outdoor skills coordinator Cara Ingle as she teaches all about fishing basics to make a family fishing trip more enjoyable.

July 2 — Learn about basic tackle and bait that are essential for any beginner angler. Learn how to properly tie a hook and bobber. Get creative in making homemade bait balls for attracting and catching your favorite fish

July 16 — Come on out for a family fun night of fishing. Poles and bait will be provided. You will have a chance to win a prize in the best casting contest.

The programs are free and will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Izaak Walton League in Newton.
