Area Roundup: PCM holds off Gilbert rally for 4-3 win

The Prairie City-Monroe Mustangs picked up their ninth victory of the season on Monday night, squeaking one out over visiting Gilbert, 4-3.

The Mustangs got a solo run in the fourth inning on an RBI single off the bat of sophomore left fielder Ron Marshall. The team picked up the bulk of its runs in the fifth inning, when Ethan Kain drove in two runs with a double. Starting pitcher Alex DeWitte doubled to bring in Kain.

DeWitte pitched all seven innings, allowing only three hits. He struck out six Gilbert batters. DeWitte took a one-hit shutout into the seventh inning, when the Gilbert rally began.

DeWitte gave up a home run to lead off the inning. An error followed by another homer made it a one run game, but DeWitte regained his composure to close out the victory.

North Polk hammers Tigerhawks at home

The Colfax-Mingo Tigerhawks were unable to keep pace with the visiting Comets of North Polk on Monday night, losing 11-0.

Tim Blood pitched the first five innings for C-M, giving up five earned runs on 10 hits. He picked up three strikeouts while walking one. Austin Yoakum pitched one inning, giving up four runs on three hits.

The Tigerhawks scraped together five hits, which were all singles. Those hits belonged to Connor Hainer, Trent Pease, Chad McLain, Michael Brown and Juan Gonzales.

Hawks softball wins 14th game in a row

The Lynnville-Sully softball team is having an incredible season. The team must have other obligations, however, because it has gotten in the habit of ending games early. The Hawks’ matcup with BGM on Monday lasted just three innings, with the Hawks winning 15-0.

Madison Rasmusson picked up the win for L-S, striking out six girls and allowing just one hit in her three innings of work. She also went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Kasiah Ehresman went 1-for-1 with two RBI. Brenna Lander was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Shelby Davis had one hit in two at-bats with a two runs scored and an RBI. Jade Van Rees, Ladandra James, Kristal Beyer and Shaylin Lukehart all picked up solo RBI.
