Traffic pattern, shuttle service plan released for Sunday’s commencement

A specific traffic pattern and shuttle service will be used again during Newton Senior High School’s graduation ceremonies, scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Sunday at Maytag Park.

Starting at noon, auxiliary police will monitor entry into the park. Also at that time, a number of special traffic conditions will go into effect:

• West Third Street South from South Eighth Avenue to Maytag Park will be one way in a southerly direction

• West Second Street South from South 11th Avenue to South Eighth Avenue will be one way in a northerly direction.

• South 11th Avenue West from West Third Street to West Fourth Street will be closed.

Those people with proper passes for their vehicles should display them to gain admittance to the park from West Third Street South.

The school district will again provide a free shuttle service to and from the graduation ceremonies. A bus equipped for physically disabled persons will be available for those needing that service.

The shuttle service will begin at 2 p.m. and continue until the beginning of the ceremonies at 3 p.m. Buses will return to the NHS parking lots immediately following the ceremonies. Those planning to use the shuttle service should park in the main parking lot on the northwest side of the high school by the flag pole.

In the event of rain, the ceremonies will be held in the NHS gym, and the front circle lot will be reserved for handicapped parking only. Tickets are not required for admission, whether the ceremonies are held at the park or the high school.
