Booster Club donates $52,500

The Newton Athletic Booster Club held its annual dinner at Sugar Grove Gathering Place on Wednesday evening. The Booster Club presented the 2012-13 total support check to Newton Athletics for $52,500 to NHS Principal Bill Peters and Athletic Director Scott Garvis.

This amount will cover the $44,600 request from coaches at the high school and middle school for equipment, uniforms and athletic fees. Additionally, $5,000 will pay for Cardinal Power coaching instruction to keep costs low for participants. The remaining $2,900 went towards the new Cardinal Mascot “Big Red,” pennants and the sound system at the football stadium.

The Booster Club consists of 36 members that each serve a three-year term. The group has three committees: membership, fund raising and merchandise, and they are each led by the executive board. The 2012-13 executive board was headed up by presidents Wayne and Jenny Mann, treasurer/secretary Dr. Duane and Amy Jolivette, membership vice-presidents Rich and Julie Richtmeier, fund raising vice-presidents Joe and Denice Fischer and merchandise vice-presidents Bobby and Julie Hitchler.

Next year’s group will be led by new presidents Kip and Jodi Morgan-Peters. The Booster Club is looking forward to another prosperous year ahead with its annual membership drive kick-off in June and the Newton Athletics Golf Tournament to be held on Sunday, August 11 at Westwood.
