Good first impression: Peters comes up big in first varsity game
It would be hard to top the varsity debut Tristan Peters had Monday night.
In his first varsity game, the Newton sophomore busted open a dead 0-0 tie late in the second half to spark the Cardinals to a 2-0 victory over Oskaloosa at H.A. Lynn Field. Newton has now won four games in a row and remains in control of its own destiny for a Little Hawkeye Conference title.
“We pulled him up from JV and it was obviously a good move for us,” Newton coach Tim Heger said of Peters. “It was really good to have him just step up out of nowhere. He played really well and it was just a good all-around effort by everyone.”
