After some real spring weather earlier in the week, winter made a swift return on Thursday and wiped out the area’s sports schedule along with it.

First and foremost, Newton’s final attempt at hosting a track meet was called off with the cancelation of the Cardinal Relays, which were supposed to host seven other teams. The Cardinal tennis team’s matches against Knoxville were also canceled with no makeup date yet to be announced.

Other makeup dates include Prairie City-Monroe girls golf at Moravia moving to May 9 and the PCM girls soccer team’s game against Gilbert moving to May 16. A makeup dates for Lynnville-Sully girls golf at Montezuma has not yet been announced.

Multiple events have already been canceled today as well. The Newton girls golf team’s home meet against Ankeny Centennial, Colfax-Mingo, Lynnville-Sully, North Polk, PCM and South Tama has been rescheduled for Monday at Westwood Golf Course. The Newton girls tennis team’s meet at Oskaloosa will be made up on May 13.
