The Newton Municipal Band is welcoming new members as it gears up for its summer concert series.

Anyone who is a high school band member or who played an instrument in high school is welcome to join.

The Newton Municipal Band has a long history of making music on Thursday nights during the summer months. This year’s season will open with a concert on June 6 at the Maytag Bowl. Other concert dates are June 20 and July 4 and 11.

The band’s first rehearsal will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 23, in the Newton Senior High School band room. Dan Stecker will return to the podium for his second year as director. Stecker is currently the band director at Pleasantville and is a former NHS director of bands.
