School board names superintendent finalists

Texas, Iowa superintendents will interview early next week

Newton Community School District Board of Education President Andy Elbert said the two finalists for the district's superintendent opening have been selected.

They are Bob Callaghan, superintendent of the Rogers Independent School District in Texas, and Paula Wright, superintendent of the Chariton Community School District here in Iowa. Elbert said both candidates will undergo all-day interview processes, Callaghan on Monday and Wright on Tuesday.

Current Newton superintendent Steve McDermott has announced his resignation, effective June 30, to take the head job in the Creston Community School District. A decision on his replacement could be made by the end of next week.
