Businesses make substantial donations to DMACC

The Principal Financial Group and Prairie Meadows have made substantial contributions to Des Moines Area Community College.

“We are so pleased to have these business partners support our students,” Tara Connolly, Executive Director of the DMACC Foundation, said.

The Principal Financial Group has donated $10,000 to the DMACC Foundation. The company has made an ongoing commitment to the Principal Financial Group Business Administration scholarship at DMACC. A total of 10 DMACC students will each receive $1,000 scholarships in the fields of accounting, business administration, computer network administration or management.

DMACC has also been awarded $10,000 through the Prairie Meadows Community Betterment Grant. The money will be used to fund the DMACC Adult Literacy program.

“The Adult Literacy Program provides courses in reading, writing and math,” said Connolly. “It also provides funds for students taking the General Education Degree exams.”

DMACC recently dedicated the “Prairie Meadows Race Track and Casino, Inc. Technology Lab” inside the Evelyn K. Davis Center for Working Families in downtown Des Moines. Prairie Meadows contributed $100,000 towards the lab that serves 135 to 150 students per week. The lab is used for workforce services including career planning, digital literacy and financial literacy.
