John Jones

John Alan Jones, 60, of Johnston, formerly of Newton, died Tuesday morning, April 16, 2013 at home peacefully with his family at his side.

John was born June 22, 1952, in Des Moines, Iowa. After graduating from Ankeny High School, he served in the U.S. Army and retired from Maytag on March 31, 2006. He married his best friend and the love of his life, Mary Ellen Watkins, on June 21, 1975. John enjoyed NASCAR racing and his dog Murphy. He loved life and adored his family.

John is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mary; daughter, Angie (Chad) Eilander; son, Kevin Jones; two granddaughters, Alli Butler and Taylor Eilander; brothers, James (Clara) of Arizona, Robert (Becky) of Florida and David (Rhonda) of Missouri; sister-in-law, Deb (Jim) Cosgrove of Urbandale; mother-in-law, Marguerite Watkins of Chariton; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Ruby Jones; sister, Mary Lea Conover; and father-in-law, Delbert Watkins.

A casual memorial visitation will be from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 20, with a prayer service from 5:30 to 6 p.m. at Caldwell-Raddatz Funeral Home, 8201 Hickman Road, Urbandale. Per his wishes, his body has been cremated.
