Newton Police Department

•An 11-year-old Newton boy was charged with fifth-degree theft after officers were dispatched to Woodrow Wilson Elementary School at 1:40 p.m. Friday. The boy allegedly stole a $50 cell phone out of the principal’s desk. The phone was later discovered to be in his possession. The case was deferred to juvenile authorities.

• Jeffery A. Waddell, 37, of Monroe was taken into custody at the Jasper County Courthouse on a warrant issued for a failure to appear in court charge at 2:40 p.m. Monday. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

Jasper County Sheriff’s Department

• Lindy L. Henry, 28, of Newton was picked up from the Polk County Jail on a warrant and was brought to the Jasper County Jail at 7:31 p.m Monday.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. It is the policy of the Newton Daily News to release the names of individuals charged with a crime who are 16 and older.
