Linda L. Jones

Linda L. Jones, 72, of Newton died on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 5, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. Memorials in Linda’s name may be left at the funeral home.

Linda, the daughter of Leon and Lois (Stevenson) Wharff, was born on Dec. 30, 1940, in Newton. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1959. Linda was united in marriage with Gordon “Gordy” Jones on Sept. 15, 1967, at the First Christian Church in Newton. She was a member of the First Christian Church and enjoyed fishing and being with family and friends. Linda was also an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Those left to honor Linda’s memory are her husband, Gordy of Newton; son, Justin (Diana) Jones of Iowa City; her granddaughter, Novie L Jones of Iowa City; two brothers, Gene (Sherry) Wharff and Leon (Bev) Wharff, both of Newton; her sister, Sherry Wharff of Newton; her brother-in-law, Jimmy L Jones of Newton; and her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ronnie Wharff.
