The Newton Police Department conducted a seatbelt survey on Monday at three different Newton locations throughout the day, observing seatbelt usage of motorists and their passengers.
Overall seatbelt usage was 96 percent of motorists and passengers observed properly wearing their seatbelts. This percent has increased from the March 6 seatbelt survey with that percent being 89 percent.
The Newton Police Department would like to remind motorists to buckle up, slow down and obey all traffic laws. Primary funding for the project was provided by the Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau.
