Catherine Sumpter

Catherine Sumpter, the daughter of Arvel Floyd and Thelma Clelle (Camden) Bryant, was born Dec. 12, 1946, in Cuba, Mo.

Cathy worked as a home health aide for many years. She was also a longtime babysitter. On Sept. 5, 1981, Cathy was united in marriage with Jimmie Dean Sumpter at the First Assembly of God in Newton, Iowa. She enjoyed reading, garage sales, garden flowers, playing bingo, collecting porcelain dolls and metal detecting.

Cathy died on Friday, March 29, 2013, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. She was 66 years old. Cathy was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jim Bryant.

Those left to honor Cathy’s memory include her husband, Jimmie of Baxter; her son, Ray (Christine Ellison) Slocum; her daughters, Tammie (Jimi) Hannagan and Toni (Steve) Liebeck; her step-daughter, Julie (Doug) Bryce; her 12 grandchildren; her four great-grandchildren; her sisters, Imogene (Wayne) Stuart, Linda Kelly, Brenda Loupee and Marcia (Tim) Campbell; and her brothers, Floyd Dale (Christy) Bryant and Rick (Ellen) Bryant.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be designated in Cathy’s name and left at the funeral home.
