Michael James Slea, 50, of Newton died on Thursday, March 21, 2013, in Des Moines.

A visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Memorials in Michael’s name may be left at the funeral home.

Michael, the son of Wallace and Frances (Gray) Slea, was born on March 17, 1963, in Wiltshire, England. After growing up in England, Arizona, and Texas, he moved to Newton, Iowa, at the age of 12. Michael worked as a laborer most of his life. He enjoyed motorcycles and loved spending time with his son, Josh, fishing, camping, and watching movies.

Those left to honor Michael’s memory are his son, Josh Slea of Des Moines; parents, Fran and Dan Sutphin of Newton; sister, Lori (Brian) DePenning of Ankeny; and step-grandma, Marian Sutphin of Newton. He was preceded in death by his father, Wallace Slea; step-sister, Tanya Sutphin; grandparents, Marjorie and James Gray and Grace and Hilbert Slea; and step-grandfather, Dale Sutphin.
