Break out the shovels, more winter on its way

Forecast calls for up to 5 inches of snow in Central Iowa by Sunday night

Forget what the calendar says, Old Man Winter isn’t leaving anytime soon.

The National Weather Service is forecasting another winter storm will bring up to 5 inches of snow to Central Iowa Saturday night through Sunday night. Winds will remain strong as the slow-moving system passes through the area.

Despite the relatively high snowfall total expected with the system, forecasters do not believe it will achieve blizzard conditions. But, with high temperatures expected to be above freezing throughout the storm’s anticipated duration, sloppy driving conditions are likely.

Next week, temperatures are forecast to reach the mid- to upper-40s, so whatever snow does fall on Central Iowa will likely be short-lived.
